Frequently Asked Questions

  • OTG Basecamp is located near Nelson, on the top of New Zealand’s South Island. We will explore the national parks and stunning coastlines that this region has to offer.

  • You need to be reasonably fit. You will be walking in the mountains for 4+ hours per day, carrying a backpack weighing around 12kgs on challenging terrain. With the right training, you will be able to maintain pace with your OTG team.

  • After a comprehensive Bible study & some leadership training, we’ll participate in various activities every day. Whether it’s sharing a meal or enjoying an adventure, no two days are ever the same.

  • No, you do not. Many of our participants come with no outdoor experience but leave with a backpack full of skills to enjoy the outdoors on their own.

  • OTG Basecamp has a bunkroom for the girls & another for the guys. In the backcountry we stay in mountain huts or tents, under a tarp or under the stars. All depends on the weather.

  • You can connect with family on the day you arrive at Basecamp. The next day you & your team will turn in your devices to begin a media fast together. We securely store your devices & return them to you on the last day of OTG.

  • 40-Day Experience: 18-30 yrs old / Customised Groups: 18 and over

  • Once accepted to an OTG experience, you will receive the OTG Information Packet that includes a comprehensive gear list containing everything you need to bring.

  • Basically, all on-ground costs like accommodation, food, transportation and entry fees are covered. You need to arrange travel to and from Nelson, NZ. Detailed travel information is included in the Information Packet that you will receive once accepted to OTG.

  • Yes! Serve with one of our strategic ministry partners or travel on your own for a few days or weeks. If you have the time and resources, we strongly recommend you consider this.
